टिप्पणियाँ · 30 विचारों

The global acetic acid market was valued at USD 15.8 billion in 2025. It is estimated at USD 16.9 billion in 2026 and projected to reach USD 28.9 billion by 2033, a CAGR of 7.9% over 2026 to 2033.

Acetic acid is one of the most widely used building-block chemicals. It sits behind paints, adhesives, PET bottles, textiles, medicines and the vinegar on your kitchen shelf. Here is where the market stands and where it is heading, based on Grand View Research's latest analysis.

Market Size & Projections

The global acetic acid market was valued at USD 15.8 billion in 2025. It is estimated at USD 16.9 billion in 2026 and projected to reach USD 28.9 billion by 2033, a CAGR of 7.9% over 2026 to 2033.

Asia Pacific led the market in 2025 with a 34.6% revenue share, and China held the largest share within the region. Growth there comes from expanding construction, pharmaceutical, automotive and textile industries.

By application, vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) was the largest segment, with a 41.3% revenue share in 2025. Acetic anhydride is the fastest-growing segment, expected to expand at a CAGR of 8.0% through the forecast period.

Key Market Drivers & Applications

Downstream industry growth. Plastics, textiles and chemicals are all expanding worldwide, and acetic acid is a core input for each. Rising incomes in developing economies are also lifting textile demand.

Vinyl acetate monomer and paints. Acetic acid is a major raw material for VAM, which feeds polyvinyl acetate used in paints, coatings, paper coatings and printed products. More home renovation and redecoration directly supports this demand chain.

Acetic anhydride. This derivative is used in photographic films, coated materials and cigarette filters. It is also a key raw material for medicines such as aspirin.

PET packaging. Terephthalic acid demand is supported by the shift in alcoholic beverage packaging between glass and PET bottles.

Food and pharmaceuticals. In North America, acetic acid is widely used in meat preservation and vinegar production, where food-grade quality is essential. Pharmaceutical demand is rising in Asia Pacific, the Middle East & Africa and North America, driven by aging populations and growing reliance on medicines.

Wider uses. Wood preservation, adhesives, resins and rubber add further breadth to demand.

Production Routing & Price Dynamics

Acetic acid is made from methanol, so feedstock cost and availability are central to margins and pricing. Methanol carbonylation is the dominant commercial route globally. That makes acetic acid prices highly sensitive to methanol markets and to demand from downstream acetate esters such as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate.

Europe shows how this plays out. In Germany, demand has fluctuated with feedstock cost and availability and with construction-driven demand for acetate esters. Grand View Research expects a price reversal driven by rising import prices from China and elevated methanol costs.

Capacity moves are also reshaping supply:

  • November 2024: INEOS and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals (GNFC) signed an MoU to explore a new world-scale 600 kilotons per year acetic acid plant in Bharuch, Gujarat, through a new joint venture. GNFC is currently India's only acetic acid producer.
  • September 2023: INEOS announced the acquisition of Eastman's Texas City site, which includes a 600 kilotons acetic acid plant.
  • January 2023: Kingboard's subsidiary Hebei Kingboard Energy Development moved to seek approval for an acetic acid expansion and transformation project in China.

Technology and sustainability also matter. More efficient and eco-friendly production methods, and growing preference for sustainable products, are expected to influence competition and demand.
